So, i received my first brief last week for my final BA year in the school of jewellery! The brief, competition itself is set by Goldsmiths London and its objective is to produce a sculptural piece on recognized CAD software , it must have movable/ mobile parts... ''Design a sculptural piece with moving, movable or mobile parts. Entrants should explore the potential that the new technology of CAD offers, demonstrating both proficiency in modelling techniques and a clear manufacturing knowledge. The 3D piece must contain moving parts and it can be freeform or linearly modelled. Proposals need to be designed using a recognised CAD program and entrants must stipulate the software used and technical processes intended to produce a design proposal. Presentations can be up to A1.''
At first instance cogs, hinges for lockets , springs , locks and other usual movable workings come to mind. But i thought it best not to get bogged down by that at this early stage, but to have a play with some designs/ideas and then make the movable elements work with the chosen design.
Here are is some of my design inspiration :)
